Description
SLU Reconstitution Solution is required for SLU, which doesn’t break down in BacterioStatic water like peptides do.
-
It is comprised of 1 3mL vial of DMSO, & one 10mL vial of reconstitution solution (40% PEG-300 / 5% Tween-80 / sterile 45% saline)
- 1st: You add the .5mL of DMSO, wait for it to completely dissolve the SLU.
- 2nd: You add 2.5mL of the reconstitution solution.
How it works (practical mechanism)
- Preservative action: Benzyl alcohol (0.9%) creates a hostile environment for many bacteria, helping keep the contents from becoming contaminated between needle entries.
- Vehicle only: Provides water to dissolve or dilute drugs. It does not treat or prevent disease by itself.
Purpose of use / where it’s used
- Reconstitution of powders (e.g., certain peptides, hormones, antibiotics) when a multi‑dose supply is needed.
- Dilution of drugs per product labeling to achieve a target concentration for accurate dosing.
Important: Whether BWFI is appropriate depends on the drug’s label. Some drugs must use Sterile Water for Injection (SWFI) or normal saline (NS) instead, and some do not allow preservatives.
